How we teach

Real, natural German. Active communication, real situations and small groups.

What happens in a lesson

The structure is similar in every lesson.

  1. Quick review

We start with a quick review. Your questions about the previous material come first.

  2. Quick check

With everyday questions and small tests, we check what you already know.

  3. The new material

The new material is introduced using pictures, videos, audio and other easy-to-understand materials.

  4. Practice

This is followed by online exercises. In group lessons, you sometimes work in small subgroups.

  5. Discuss together

At the end, everyone comes back together and you discuss the results as a group.

“German in German”, even if you're starting from zero

This is the question we get asked most often: How am I supposed to learn German in German if I don't know any German yet?

The answer is: in very small steps. We start with pronunciation and letters, then come the first words, then simple situations. Meaning comes from pictures, from context, from examples and from language that's deliberately kept simple. You don't have to translate anything, because you see the word in the moment you hear it.

We're not dogmatic about this. If something really stays unclear despite pictures, examples and explanations, we clarify it specifically in your native language, using AI support if needed. What matters is that you understand it, not that we stick rigidly to a rule.

This way, you connect meaning directly with the German word right from the start.

What we do differently

Traditional course

  • Mainly textbook German
  • Grammar on its own, disconnected from conversation
  • Focus on the textbook and the exam

At WkD

  • Real, natural German
  • Active communication and natural spoken German
  • Visual teaching and real situations
  • Focus on vocational training, studies and work

Speaking, understanding, reading, then writing

How a lesson is divided up depends on the level and the topic. At A1 the focus is clearly on speaking, listening and reading. Writing starts with simple dialogues and is built up systematically from A2 onwards, all the way to longer texts at B2 and C1.

Presentations are added on top. They train several skills at once.

How correction works

In class we correct where it helps the learning.

For that you get something in your hand after the lesson: we collect the important mistakes, the new words and the new sentences and make them available to you as a PDF. Nothing gets lost that way, and you can read it through in peace instead of taking notes during class.

No unnecessary homework

We do not hand out tasks to make the course look full. If you are given something, it is because it moves you forward and because it fits into your day. Most of our participants work or study alongside the course and have little time.

The real work happens in class anyway, where someone listens and corrects.

How big the groups are

5–12participants in a group course
1–3participants in private lessons
100 %live online, from anywhere
1 PDFafter every lesson: corrections, new words and sentences

Private lessons at WkD do not necessarily mean learning alone: there can be two or three of you. You decide how many people take part: you learn as two or three only if you want this yourselves and all agree. Otherwise private lessons are one-to-one. They are booked as a monthly package. Which packages there are and what they include is shown with the courses.

If someone falls behind

Then we adapt exercises and questions to that person, address them more directly and use more playful or better suited tasks. The aim is to bring them back into the lesson as an active participant.

What else you get
